I wanted to bring up the topic of movement. While exercising and going to the gym daily is great, it only accounts for a tiny portion of your day. Think about it, if you’ve spent 1 hour in the gym and 8 hours sleeping, what are you doing with the other 15 hours of your day? I think movement outside the gym is just as important as movement inside, so here are 3 tips to add more movement into your daily routine throughout the day.
1. Take standing/movement breaks at work. Set a timer on your phone or watch to remind yourself to take a standing break at your desk. Take the opportunity to move around, fill up your water bottle and give your mind a mental break from work. We need to make sure to get those brain breaks in so we work at peak cognitive performance!
2. Engage in exercise breaks between shows. With fast streaming services becoming increasingly popular in homes, we can spend hours on the couch watching episode after episode. Make an effort to take a short exercise break between shows such as completing 25 Sit-ups.
3. Add movement into morning or evening routines. Expose yourself to direct sunlight as soon as you wake up, and consider an energizing morning ritual like a stretching routine or a neighborhood stroll. If you don’t have time in the morning, consider taking a stroll after dinner or standing instead of sitting while reading or watching t.v at night.
