Let’s talk alcohol!


Alcohol seems to be lost in translation when counting macros. Consider alcohol as a 4th macro, it contains 7 calories per gram. It’s never listed on a nutrition label because it has no nutritional value. While some may think this means free calories well sorry to break the bad news, it’s not water. We need to properly account for the “empty calories” we consume. You can account for alcohol as a carb and/or fat source by simply following the equations in the photo.


Also, this is for alcohol only. So when consuming your favorite spiked seltzer thinking your only consuming 5g carbs use the equation to accurately account for the amount you’re having. In addition, if you’re using mixers, juices, soda, etc.. track these separately. #mindblown
